Code of Conduct

Karate with Aoife – Code of Conduct

Karate with Aoife is committed to providing a safe, positive, and respectful environment for all athletes, parents, volunteers, and coaches. Our Code of Conduct is based on Safe Sport principles and the Karate Canada Code of Conduct.
1. Respect
All members must:
  • Treat instructors, teammates, parents, and volunteers with respect.
  • Use respectful language at all times—no teasing, bullying, or put-downs.
  • Respect the dojo, equipment, and training spaces.
  • Follow dojo etiquette, including bowing and listening when addressed.

2. Safety
Everyone is responsible for maintaining a safe training environment.
Participants must:
  • Follow coach instructions to ensure safety of all.
  • Wear proper equipment: gi, belt, mouthguard for sparring, and no jewellery.
  • Keep nails trimmed and hair tied back.
  • Never use physical or verbal aggression.
  • Follow the Rule of Two, two responsible adults present with athletes at all times.

3. Effort & Attitude
Students are expected to:
  • Arrive on time, ready to train.
  • Try their best each class.
  • Encourage teammates and show good sportsmanship.
  • Accept feedback and corrections respectfully.

4. Behaviour & Integrity
All members must:
  • Demonstrate honesty and fairness in training, grading, and competition.
  • Avoid gossip, negative talk, or spreading rumours.
  • Resolve conflicts respectfully and seek instructor support when needed.
  • Refrain from alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, or drugs at all karate events.

5. Parents & Guardians
Parents/Guardians are expected to:
  • Support their child’s effort and development, not just outcomes.
  • Respect coaches’ expertise and decisions.
  • Refrain from coaching from the sidelines.
  • Communicate concerns privately and respectfully.
  • Model respectful behaviour toward athletes, coaches, volunteers, and officials.
  • Never ridicule, shout at, or pressure any athlete.

6. Coaches & Volunteers
Coaches and volunteers will:
  • Follow Safe Sport practices, including the Rule of Two.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and avoid power imbalance issues.
  • Provide age-appropriate, safe, and progressive instruction.
  • Lead by example with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
  • Maintain required certifications and background screening.
  • Report any safety concerns or misconduct.

7. Attendance & Commitment
Participants agree to:
  • Attend classes consistently.
  • Notify the instructor in advance of absences when possible.
  • Participate in dojo events respectfully and represent Karate with Aoife positively.

8. Zero Tolerance 
Karate with Aoife has zero tolerance for:
  • Bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
  • Physical, emotional, or sexual misconduct.
  • Violence, intimidation, or retaliation of any kind.
  • Cheating or manipulating competition outcomes.
  • Breaches of this Code may result in consequences such as warnings, suspension from classes, or removal from the program.

9. Agreement

By participating in Karate with Aoife, all students, parents, and coaches agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a safe, respectful, and supportive dojo community.
